Sue Niyazi McDevitt, MA Expressive Arts

Memoir Writer and Artist

Welcome. I’m so glad to meet you here. Bienvenidos. Hola, qué gusto conocerte aquí. I am happy that you have found my website and want to explore my art and memoir in the making.  I hope you celebrate with me the belief that we all have within us the potential for experiencing delight in our creativity.

My grandmother originally inspired me to love painting watercolors, teaching me
her skills when I was only eight years old. At fifty-two I took watercolor classes
and rediscovered my passion for art. Then my creative nature blossomed and I
ventured into expressive arts, where poetry, music, and movement expanded my
imagination. I discovered the healing powers of creative exploration and
completed a master’s degree in Expressive Arts in 2005. Please check out my Expressive Arts Gallery with photos from one woman shows in Baja, mixed media art, and my new expressive arts studio.

As I neared my sixties, I felt stifled by a full-time job in government service and
weighed down by loneliness and depressive episodes.  I was itching to devote my
life to my own creative expression and find well-being. I took the leap into early
retirement at sixty-one and moved to Baja California. Being a Spanish speaker
opened doors for me in Mexico and I was embraced by a warm artistic community
in Ensenada.  During my fourteen-year adventure in Baja, I was seduced by a Latin
lover, created three solo watercolor shows, swam solo in the mysterious cenotes
of the Riviera Maya, and much, much more. Feel free to click around and enjoy a
taste of the liveliness and color of Baja and its people (Creativity Group
Facilitator).

I currently live in Lemon Grove, California, where I am writing “Life
Reinvented in Baja”
, an enchanting, fun, and inspiring memoir.
I’m also experiencing the thrill of making art for my own pleasure, writing, and
journaling. Please take a look at my Interwoven in the Borderlands blog
Thank you for visiting my website. Gracias.
